How to mark up a PDF plan
Marking up a drawing is the everyday job: cloud a revision, add a callout, drop a symbol, and note what changed. Here is how to redline a construction PDF, and measure to scale while you are at it.
Mark up a plan, step by step
- Open the PDF. Drag the plan set into the browser. Nothing uploads and nothing installs.
- Pick a markup tool. Choose a cloud, callout, text note, highlight, shape, arrow, freehand ink, stamp, or a symbol from the library.
- Place the markup. Draw or drop it on the drawing. Snapping to the geometry keeps clouds and symbols on the linework, not near it.
- Measure if you need to. Switch to a measurement tool in the same toolbar to add an area, length, or count to scale, without leaving the sheet.
- Save or print. Flatten the markups and save or print the marked-up set, or export it to share with your team.
Tips for clean redlines
- Cloud, then callout. Cloud the changed area and add a callout so the reason is clear at a glance.
- Use the symbol library for valves, fittings, devices, and fixtures instead of drawing them by hand.
- Whiteout or redact to cover superseded content cleanly.
- Align and distribute markups so a busy sheet still reads well.
